    I have the same mower since 2017 and haven't had any problems with it with the exception of replacing the blades, and I have just under a acre of lawn to cut.

    This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability,deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

    It amazes me how people will pay good money for a riding mower, now over a couple of grand. Never pull any maintenance or do anything to keep it in shape, not even clean after use. Expect it to Bush Hog, Then they TRASH the manufacturer for their stupid problems. (I would love to see their motor vehicle) I just purchased a used 2017 Troy Bilt 42" rider that sat outside in Florida's 100 deg. and up, Sun, torrential rains, and a couple of Hurricanes, without any covering for 6 years and the owner claimed because of poor health he used it 5 or 6 times so its still a *bran new* machine. Well, after replacing a solid completely corroded carb. it ran pretty good. I bought the mower, brought it home and after $400.00 more in replacement parts and two weeks of cleaning and fixing, (the deck was almost trash the seat was trash) finally I was able to mow my lawn. The Troy now, is a *new mower*. Then I was accused of scamming the owner after he heard it running. I guess it was not supposed to run? Figures!!! After rebuilding the deck and an engine service, I thought the mower was well built runs great. Maybe because I'm 88 years old it was not the easiest to work on but it now does what it's supposed to do VERY WELL, in my half acre lot! I kept my old Craftsman LT1000, 21.5hp V-Twin, B&S, running for over 15 years. I actually did some redesigning on that mower.

    if blades are dull it will snap belts due to thick grass slows blades putting slack in the belt. once that slack catches with motor revving high it snaps the belt. from the looks of that deck and how it broke that's what's happening. The blades slow with thick grass, pulley spinning wide open, once you pass the thick grass bam! belt catches ' SNAP ' seems you're expecting this little machine to do more than it was designed to do &/or dull blades thru thick grass. You said it did fine in the beginning which makes one think that's because the blades were sharp. looks like it's parked outside pretty regularly as well

    I've had good succuss with mine, had it for around 15 years. I replaced the deck belt at least once. No more than twice. I'm not easy on it, I live in a warm climate, so I use it about 9 months out the year including to bag leaves during the fall. I guess you got a bad one. But once it's out of warranty it's not the companies responsibility.

    I just went and looked at a used PONY. The thing vibrates like crazy, it shutters when you release the pedal to go forward or backward, it smells like gas when its running, the oil is completely clear and it also smells like gas and he said he has had to replace the carb twice and he has put 5 belts on it in the past 4 yrs. He was very truthful with me and based on what he told me...i did not buy it. However....the comments below suggest these are good mowers, so, i have no idea what to think. I guess every now and then, you get a bad one.

    When I go to engage the blades the mower almost stops running but I push through. When I get entirely engaged the engine sounds like it's missing and about to stall. I can't figure out what is wrong. I took the deck off and the blades are freely spinning.

    My drive belts broke yesterday. The seat is uncomfortable as hell. And it wont idle for squat. A new carburetor, new filters, new gaslines, new battery and now the belts. MTD is the problem. Don’t get a damn Cub Cadet I bought one 2 years ago and it has been in the shop 4 times. It is in shop now for the last 3 months. Cub Cadet is true garbage

    As far as the belts I have popped more belts than I would like. It also it gets a horrible rattle towards the end of every season mow. Have to get it repaired every spring or it isn't a smooth ride. I would not recommend this mower for large yards or for heavy duty mowing leaves and such. Just doesn't have the power. Spend the money and get a high grade mower.

    I have worked on many Troy Bilt and have found that in many cases the reason belts burn up is simply a result of people trying to mow as quickly as they can forcing that variable speed pully to retain the belts very deep into the channel v intel friction and heat alone allow for the belt to gradually become damaged …..eventually this ends with a breaking of the belt …...Now with this being said the quality of the new troy bilts is truly shit compared to the older styles . The older Troy builts Had variable speed pullies twice the size of the cheap junk applied in the more modern Troy bilts . The frames where of better quality and really even to the older Briggs engines where def of better quality . I seen the deck in your video had suffered damage and realized very quickly your reason for damage as it was evident . I don't doubt that you didn't hit anything ….I know from experience whats happened …….Poor stamping and metal fatigue with the tension of a deck belt that was being labored excessively caused the failure . You see the tensioner pivot or bolt that applies the tensioner arm was torn from its matting surface upon the deck this is indictive of a belt being forced to flex in and out of {rebound forces} meaning the mower deck was being forced to labor its grass loads more excessively than it could discharge them from the grass discharge opening . This increase and decrease of Rotation Per Min from the engine caused rebound forces to happen fatiguing or stressing the pivot or bolt that protrudes threw the deck ……..And this in turn caused the mating material {metal] to become weak over time to crack below the pivot or tensioner arm . Therefore the failure was partially the fault of the owner as well as improper stamping of the deck Via a lack of reinforcement to a high tensioned stress location on the deck . Now I certain can understand why the owners anger was intensified because of the stress of dealing with Troy bilt / Mtd ….But sadly the warranty had run out …..I am not condoning the reasoning completely for them not making it right but rather advocating they where and are certainly aware of failure points in the quality of there equipment .This being one of the most typical that home owners encounter ……..So my opinion is why don't they reinforce this problematic area ?

    • @back9trucktrailer313
      @back9trucktrailer313 2 роки тому

      Well put and agreed. These mowers are not made for constant full or over full load one would encounter in 6+ inch mowing conditions. Can they mow it? Yes. Should you? No. Lawn mower is what it’s called….not a swather or a brush hog. And regardless of how many months you use it out of the year a warranty is only as good as the time the company will back it which the owner should have been aware of at purchase. The idea he says that it only gets used 6 months out of the year so really it’s like it’s only been used one year is laughable. Good day.
